Let's start this post off right - Happy New Year! It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone, but I'm really looking forward to what 2012 has in store for me, the blog, and my career in fashion pr. Every year around this time, I always try and find something to add to my wardrobe that will be timeless (pun intended) and an investment in my overall GROWN MAN STYLE.

This J.Crew Timex Andros watch meets all my sartorial requirements, and with a price tag of $145, it's perfect on my budget savvy pockets as well. With J.Crew's current promotion of 25% off sale merchandise (ending today), the final price would be around $109 before taxes; throw in my $25 e-gift card from my boss and mentor, the final price would be around $85.

However, with my birthday around the corner (March 18th), I'm thinking it will take the guess work out of what my family can get me - I always ask for things I need, and this watch is a definite necessity. Another great feature is the fact that the strap is interchangeable with all of the offered straps by the prep with a twist retailer (found here), making this the gift that keeps giving!

CONFESSION: I'm completely obsessed, HEAD OVER HEELS, madly in LOVE with Diet Coke! I especially love it at midnight while flipping through the latest issues of GQ & Vogue in my kitchen. I don't even flinch at the idea of a pimple forming from all of the sugar I'm consuming - oh me and acne, we go back like diapers and sandboxes. To spend or not to spend...that is the question! That's kinda always the question for me seeing as I know jack squat about saving money (SORRY MA! I'M TRYING FOR GOODNESS SAKE!) Anyway, let me start by again, apologizing for the lack of posts - I'm sure some of you wrote me off seeing as it's been a good 5 months since my last post, but I'M BACK FOLKS AND BETTER THAN EVER!

Now that we got that little PSA out of the way, back to my little dilemma of whether or not to spend my hard earned (very little saved) money on a new iPhone case. Of course, nothing I pick is ever cost effective and the simple all black, rubber iPhone cases just won't do...while I may be working on my fitness and upping my manly points, I still work in fashion and must express myself at every given moment. And, why does iPhone cases always seem to cost so much money - Yes, I think $40 is a bit much for an iPhone case: #JUSTSAYIN. I get it, we spend $300+ on our sacred tech babies, but should protection for them cost just as much - HELLO!! CONDOMS PROTECT OUR LIVES AND THEY'RE ONLY $10 A PACK! I mean, we could implement a little CPU (Cost Per Use) for justification, but good grief, my top fav is running at $100 and I don't think I'm strong enough to pull the trigger just yet...thanks MAN REPELLER, your case shall haunt my dreams, and nightmares of my Wells Fargo financial advisor for many nights to come.

These cases are just a few I keep searching back to...now to decide if I'm sacrificing gas or groceries this week for my new obsession...what do you think?

I know it's been like forever and 3 months, but I'm back ladies and gentleman! So I'm not going to get too deep into how I found myself in my absence from the blog, I want to continue to apply a little more of myself in everything I do, and how I think there's no reason I shouldn't be as successful as the next genius with a great idea, blog, design, photo, etc...you get the picture.

Anyway, so we all know I have this crazy obsession with Lady Gaga (wait, do you know? Damn, not sure if I revealed that part of myself to you, the dear reader, but yes, I'm COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH LADY G!) and her new single Judas is beyond amazing! What's even more amazing is the video that she put together to depict a very popular story in the bible. I'm not going to bore you with how she is completely genius by making Jesus' disciples members of a biker gang and how in the end she is stoned for her betrayl of Jesus (leader of the biker gang), meeting the same fate that the Judas in the New Testament met when he betrayed Jesus and gave him to the priests.

I'll simply let you view this amazing work of art and make your own interpretation!

Whoa! It's been like a gazillion years since I last posted. Been terribly busy with my career and it's been consuming my life to the point that I'm not even sure of the last time I read an actual fashion magazine! FOR SHAME! Anyway, as you know I don't like to dwell in the past so let's move right along.

I went kayaking this past Saturday to celebrate a friend's bday, and it was the most amount of fun I've had in a very, very, very, long time! What was also cool was my friend showing me this cool camera app for my iPhone4 (will have to do a separate post on how this phone absolutely changed my life...YES, IT'S THAT DAMN SERIOUS) called Hipstomatic! Have you heard of it?! It's a really cool hipster app that allows you take photos with all of these cool lenses and flashes, in turn producing these vintage inspired photos.

I took these photos while at lunch on Sanibel Island and they look like something straight out of the 60's. I'm somewhat obsessed with the app that I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing more photos from my iPhone on here and not my Canon. Hope you missed me because I terribly missed you!

So I know you all saw my post yesterday regarding the iPhone4 and my excitement to purchase it for my upcoming 25th birthday. Now I'm thinking I wanna go one step further and get myself a really nice bag as well! Over the years I've discovered the functionality of bags makes sense for both women as well as men! Let's face it, nowadays men are caring a little a more than their wallets and cellphones like before. Most men also have some form of lip balm (if he ever wants to kiss a girl he has something to keep those things moisturized), keys, ipod, reading material (for the train...talking to the city dwellers folks. Where my folks that take that public transportation???). And, I don't know about you, but I'm not about to ruin the pockets of my favorite jeans because I don't have a bag to carry my items - keys, BB (soon to be iPhone4!), wallet, lip balm.

Yes, though I may not carry much to warrant my blood thirsty crave for a bag, I'm now realizing that I want to have a signature accessory that will always add that unexpected punch to every outfit. Chanel had her pearls, Karl and Anna have their sunnies, why can't I have my bag! Besides, I live in FL and when this cold front leaves (here's hoping it lasts for a few more weeks), I'm back to keeping the outfits simple and basic to battle the heat. Would love a bag, slung across my body that will give me the fashion credit I so desperately deserve. The two bags I'm eying are from a very unlikely source, Reed Krakoff. Though I'm not the biggest fan of the logo emblazoned Coach bags he designs, I have to take my hat off to Reed. The man can design some accessories.

My boss in NY recently purchased his Utility Messenger II bag (above) and it's pretty much the sickest bag I've seen in a long time. It definitely has the "IT" bag appeal, which I'm surprised I haven't seen more starlet/editors carrying it...I wonder who's handling his PR. Anywho, the above bag is one that I'm so seriously thinking about draining my savings account for...Mom Dukes is taking care of the iPhone so we're all set there...in case you were wondering :). I just need to decide on which color - grey (though I don't wanna be a copycat) or the brown...Decisions, decisions.

Life, Decoded...

One of my many New Year's Resolutions was to read more. Yes, I said it. I don't read enough and this year I plan to do just that. Read one book a month. When I was in college, I could devour books like no one's business. It was out of control, I would read between study hall, long nights and numerous runs to Starbucks. The most exciting thing (yes, reading can be very exciting, just ask Oprah) each semester I read for leisure I found that I did so much better than the semesters when I didn't read. Maybe it was my brain constantly problem solving, thinking, doing what it does best! Could this be what Albert stumbled upon when he said we only use 5% of our brain's potential? Either way, I'm on it this year.

First up, Jay-Z's recently released book, Decoded. The book is sort of like an autobiography/road map to life's greatest lessons from one of life's greatest artists. Jay begins with his humble begins in the throws of Marcy Projects (Bed Stuy Brooklyn, NY) and all of the temptations that faced him growing up without his dad and wanting cash and a better way of life fast. The book is divided into sections that speak to the development of Jay as an artist, but also as a man. At the end of each section, Jay includes a few of his songs that relate to the section's topics. With the inclusion of foot notes throughout, you get a glimpse into why certain words/phrases are used and what they mean/meant when the song was produced.

I heard about the book watching, Oprah's Favorite Things, where she talked about how his book gave her another image of the hip-hop genre and made her rethink some of the images she had about the artists who dwell in it's often flashy world. I also watched Jay-Z's feature on Oprah's (yes, I'm obviously obsessed with Ms. Winfrey) Masters Class on OWN, The New Oprah Winfrey Network. To hear Jay discuss so eloquently his life and how he continued to believe in himself and what he had to offer the world made me overly excited to read his book. What a way to start the year. Thanks to Decoded, I have a new outlook on life and what I want to offer the world. Money well spent. I'd like to think I'm off to a great, literary fueled start :).

New Year, New Me...

The above video features The Sartorialist's very own, Scott Schulman, talking about the things that inspire his ever inspiring images found on his blog. I love seeing what makes amazing people tick and finding out where they get the inspiration to do the things they do. Scott's blog is definitely a "digital park bench" into the world of fashion and art. It's amazing how nostalgic his images around NY feel when I see them and think back to when I was a wide-eyed, bushy tail freshmen at FIT. Everything about NY excited me and made me thirst for a life that was very different from my humble Maryland upbringing.

My desire when I started this blog a year ago was to showcase my many sartorial choices, but also share my many views, ideas, and thoughts on the things happening in my world...our world. I'll have to admit, I lost my way a little since that first post. I tried to see what other blogs did and what made them successful and tried to, in some ways, incorporate those very elements into this blog. The one thing I never kept in mind was the fact that each and every blog, for the most part, is unique and special. An individualistic look at one's life through fashion, art, food, sports, etc. What makes any blog successful is the ability to remain an individual in a world of mockery.

So, here we are. My first post of the year and my declaration to remain true to me and what In Ernest will offer to the world. Because, like for Scott and so many other successful bloggers, its not always what other people will find fashionable or interesting that makes something "worthy". It's what feels right to you and what you want to say that makes it valid and worth being shared. Here's to a New Year and New Beginnings.

Alexander McQueen Samsonite Black Label Set

The holidays always remind me of one thing. No, it's not hot chocolate with marshmallows, or garland strung by the chimney with care, or the hopes that St. Nick would soon be there (and for the record, my house doesn't have a chimney, so good luck with that one homes). Anyway, when I think of the holidays, I think of holiday travel and nothing to me means travel than a nice piece of luggage. The above set is from the late Alexander McQueen and was designed in 2006 as part of the Samsonite Black Label collection.

The design resembles a very, very skinny model's spine and ribs and is what I would consider a sickening set to travel through BWI with. Talk about a head turner. It's pieces like this that you know without a shadow of a doubt wont be thrown up under any plane. Talk about traveling in style! Though "Santa" came and delivered one of the best Christmas' ever, here's to getting an early start for next year.

Yesterday was quite amazing and interesting at the same time. Let's start off with the fact that for about an hour or so, this here blog was nicely deleted off the face of the internet :-(. I pretty much damn near died, came back to life and died again. Yes, I know, I don't update as much as I should and if I want this blog to go anywhere fast, I have to put in the time and effort that my million other counterparts put in to have my blog standout amongst the masses of style, fashion, food, art...you get the picture. So heres a little early New Years Resolution...I will update this blog at least 3 times a week! Not just for you, my lovely adored readers (and yes, I adore you, all 27 of you), but for myself. When I thought for a second that my blog was gone forever, it really put things into perspective for me. I LOVE THIS BLOG! It's my child in the attic, it's my escape, it's the only place I ramble on and on (much like I'm doing now) and no one can tell me to shut the fuck up or change the subject. This blog is ME! I LOVE IN ERNEST! I LOVE YOU!

Well, now that's out of the way...let's get to the 2nd part of the day, the interesting part. So at about 3am this morning I watched the Lunar Eclipse for the first time in my life and I have to say that it was by far the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Something about it took me back to being a kid and thinking that aliens lived on the moon and that all my dreams would come true if I only believed in myself, and didn't let anyone tell me otherwise. Wow! It's amazing how as children we possess the drive to run a little faster, color a little longer, and stay up past bedtime just to say we could and did, but when we're adults, that drive slowly comes to a screeching halt and we're left wondering what happened to the inner child that knew no limits to the possibilities of life.

This is the reason I broke out the cheetah scarf from Chico's today. It helped remind me that there's a little Wild Child inside of me that wants to rule the world and doesn't care how long it's going to take to do it. Isn't that the greatest thing about fashion? How one article of clothing can make you realize who you are or want to be! Man, this is probably the deepest I've ever gotten on this blog, and you know what...IT FEELS DAMN GOOD!

The weather in Fort Myers is seriously stressing me out. One day it's 80 degrees, the next it's 50! Surely you can tell which day it was today. Always excited when I can bust out this military jacket and pair it with my favorite pieces in my wardrobe - chambray shirt and staple black pants. I've always been a fan of the chambray shirt ever since the summer started, but I could never bring myself to pay over $30 for it. Even though there were several times I was really close to breaking down and getting this one from J.Crew, I remained a good little boy and waited till I found one that was in my price range. Enter the GAP Friends & Family.

What's that you say? 30% off your total purchase? What's the code?!?! So I got this nice striped chambray shirt for $21; including shipping :). I wasn't ready to bring on the full trend of denim on denim so I decided to break the look up a little with the addition of this velvet vest I've had forever. That's kinda funny seeing as this is a piece from Forever21. Now see, even though I didn't spend too much money on the vest, had to have cost less than $20 if I remember correctly, I still get so much use out it during the year. It's a good thing I take care of my garments and treat them all the same...like found piece of treasure that will enhance my collection. Something tells me this chambray shirt will make a nice edition.

Katy Perry's "Firework" moves me in so many ways. All I can say is I will forever own the night like the 4th of July! With so many people not able to be who they are for whatever reason, it's always nice to know that some celebs do GIVE A DAMN about the little people struggling to let their light shine. I think this song touches me, because growing up as a gay black man was always the hardest thing I ever had to do. Being ridiculed because I preferred fashion over basketball, because I cared that my jeans sat on my waist and not below my ass. I was teased and taunted because I loved being around my "girlfriends" and never wanted to kick it with the fellas.

I can honestly say that if it wasn't for my supportive mother, I would have probably tried to commit suicide because growing up and always feeling different is never easy. You're alone, you feel worthless and all you want is for someone to love and respect you for who you are. Thanks, Mom! Is so refreshing that the fashion industry accepts all extremes, especially homosexuals...hell, we thrive in the fashion world, and if I had to pick any universe to dwell in, this is it!

For anyone out there who still feels alone and trapped (I still do sometimes) just listen to the words of this song...it's poetry that touches you and let's you know that you are special and should demand to be heard, seen, loved!

Sometimes I find myself fearful of the fact that I am thinking and becoming more and more like a grown-up! Yes, I said the G word. For my generation, we're all about the next party, the next premiere, the next EVERYTHING! I really find myself staying up all night just to make sure I know which celebrity wore what to the premiere of her movie. Honestly, it's quite exhausting at times.

Yes, I know! I work in fashion pr and should be all about these things. But come on! Every time you turn around there's some late breaking news about someone being arrested, pregnant, married, divorced, smacked, and the list goes on and on. I guess I really shouldn't complain giving that I'm what you would consider a nosy rosy and want to know everyone's bizness at ALL times! I'm just saying, like my mom and G-ma would say...it'd be nice if the world was a little more calm and we had a little more time to just smell the magnolias.

When Life Serves You Lemons...

We've all heard it and said it..."When life serves you lemons, make lemonade..." Well, I've been served a shit ton of lemons in my day and honestly, lemonade aint cutting it anymore. How about, when life serves you lemons...add vodka for a fun, citrusy, summer cocktail! Now that's more like it.

My current helping of lemons comes from the inevitable fact that I won't be in NY to see, shop, and covet the Lavin <3 HM collection. Today, US editors were given a sneak peak of the collection and I have to say that I am so hating on everyone that lives in the Big Apple right now! It's not fair I tell you, it's just not fucking fair (sorry for the strong language, I just sometimes feel really strongly about certain things in life and need a little help from our good friend in the profanity department...but I digress).

The above video is a look at all of the fabulousness that will be available beginning November 23rd, although something tells me that by noon it'll all be a distant memory. All The Pretty Pictures...

I'm really hoping that this Christmas (yes, I know it's a little early to be discussing the season of giving but hey, gotta let momma know early what I want so she can plan accordingly :-) ), to receive some great fashion books for my coffee table. And you thought people in fashion didn't read! Yes, these books are generally larger in size compared to the standard size books on the shelf, and there tends to be a lot of pictures as opposed to words...I'm still trying to see where the issue is coming in.

To me, books are sorta like the ever evolving world of blogging. Some blogs are a little too wordy (for me) with little to no pictures, some blogs have great photos to accompany the blogger's thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc., and then there are those blogs that are full of pretty pictures. Get my drift? These books are full of pretty pictures, ideas, and thoughts on some of the most influential people in the industry - just like most of the blogs on the world wide web today. Hope my mom is taking notes :).

WOW! Now we've all seen the surge of young tenders hitting the pop music scene looking to make a name for themselves, and I have to say I'm really rooting for Ms. Willow. The child of celeb couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow's eclectic and somewhat outlandish style has helped her make a name for herself in the fashion and music world.

Her first single, Whip My Hair back and forth is climbing the chart and her highly anticipated video debuted today. Let me know what you think...definitely giving some artists much older than her (she's only 10) a run for their money. Go head lil Willow, whip that hair back and forth. Just don't hurt em.

I went to see The Social Network on Friday with a few friends and all I can say is "WHOA"! While there were a few times that I felt like Mark Z. was a complete a-hole, I have to admit, his passion and determination to be the best was very inspiring. I really think that a lot of people are too lazy to realize their full potential and I have to admit that I at times I have cut myself short because of "couch potato syndrome". NO MORE!

There are so many things in life that I want to have, do, and see and I can no longer stand in my own way of getting what I deserve! Today is also 10-10-10 and at church I received an awesome word that spoke to my soul - Spiritual Jurisdiction. I must allow GOD to have jurisdiction over my life which will empower me to have jurisdiction to live my life to the fullest. Here's to a new outlook on life.

"Aint nobody dope as me, I'm just so fresh, so clean. So fresh and so clean, clean". I absolutely love this song because it describes my mood every time I leave my house. This outfit, while basic in color combination is anything but when you get into the details.

I would have to say that this linen pullover was a summer staple and is easily making its way into my Fall lineup. Whenever I feel like keep an outfit simple and clean, yet chic all the same, I reach for a black and white ensemble which is basically fail proof.

Finally! The weather in Fort Myers is breaking and while its still 89 degrees out, there's little to no humidity, making it much more bearable. As you can see...since watching A Single Man (produced by T. Ford), I've pretty much up'd the ante when it comes to getting dressed in the morning.

I feel the need to be a little more pulled together, especially from 8 - 7. It feels quite rewarding to walk into the office everyday and know that I feel and look my most powerful! There is nothing more rewarding or liberating than owning a wardrobe of strong pieces that are interchangeable and speak volume.

I know I've been getting quite deep on this here blog; it just feels like everyday I have a better understanding of my role in life and who I am and want to become as a man, as a publicist, and as a blogger. Does that make sense? Did I lose you yet...

A Single Man...

A Single Man produced/directed by Tom Ford was an absolutely brilliant movie. To state the obvious, the costumes were stunning (based in the 60's) and absolutely inspiring. I love how much attention was paid to detail when people in those days got dressed. It was about where you were going, who you were going to see throughout the day...it was all quite glamourous actually. I really wish Americans could go back to giving a damn about how they look everyday, but one can surely dream.

I've never read the novel by Christopher Isherwood (immediately ordered it from Amazon once the credits rolled) and I can hardly wait. The main character, George, played by Colin Firth, is dealing with the lost of his lover to a tragic car accident and the movie takes you through the entire day of George's life. What's interesting about the day that the audience is allowed to share in, is this is the day that George has decided to commit suicide. Deciding that the stress and pain of losing is lover, Jim, is too much, George goes about his day making sure to see everything as clear as possible as he knows this will be the last time.

Tom Ford is completely amazing as the film is shot so beautifully that you are instantly transformed into the psych of George and his melancholy way of thinking. Instantly you feel his pain and want to hold him and tell him to hang in there. The film has a grayish tone to it until George stumbles upon something that instantly ignites his senses - the secretary's lipstick, the rose, a prostitute's mouth, the puppy's smell of buttery toast - all light up and instantly the screen is bright and you feel George's optimism about what life can truly be when enjoyed for the simple beauties that one encounters on a daily basis.

All in all, I was so inspired by this movie because it taught me to really appreciate everyday as if it was my last. Make the most out of every single minute, of every single day, because that's all you get. I appreciate Tom bringing this amazing work of literature to film because sometimes, we have to see it and hear it in order to truly understand such a powerful message. Very few movies move, motivate and inspire and A Single Man is that film.

I may be a little late to the party...may have taken the first sip of the kool-aid...but whatever you want to call it, I'm all about my new obsession that is Tom Ford! The man is a complete and utter genius and the fact that I haven't explored his work prior is downright despicable on my part.

I recently read Tom's interview in Women's Wear Daily where he talks about his reason for leaving the States and heading to Europe to develop his talent. Stating that American fashion is too lack and laid back, where Europeans appreciate glamour and style, Tom felt his American way of life was holding him back from his true potential. A little effort goes a long way he believes...and so do I.

Never did I realize how laid back people have become with their looks, especially in the workplace. Hello, flip flops and ripped jeans anyone. It's almost a little sad how society has shut out social norms when it comes to dressing for certain arenas, ie. the office, a cocktail party, someone's freaking wedding, and on, and on, and on. I definitely can say that I've been a culprit of this tragedy and have decided to put a stop to it once and for all. I must remember that looking the part helps you along the way, and my new found obsession with Tom Ford is clearly having positive effects on my sartorial standards. So far, so good.

These are a few of my favorite things. Had my eye on the Nixon Time Teller P watches for quite some time and everyday I'm growing more and more weary that I may to just have to break down and get them myself. Not all watches have to be large and metal - some are simply chic - basic and functional!

The colors are just amazing and I'm imaging simple outfits with these great pops of color popping (pun intended) off of my wrist. And, at $60 it's a great value for something so AMAZING! Just holding out for Christmas and hoping Santa Claus knows I'm being a very, very, good boy.

I know I've been a little MIA in the past few days, but I've been going through a mini break-up with my ex. Honestly I really thought this time would be different for us. We've been back and forth, off and on for 9 years now and I can't tell you how many nights I spent praying that he and I could get back together and be what I know we could...happy in love.

Unfortunately, Life and Destiny aren't always something we can predict or force to happen. I was making plans to move him to FL to help him get back on his feet and give him a chance to make something of himself and be a better person, but of course he was lying to me and when I called him out on it he lost it. We've fought before but not like this and I definitely think that since he is in a desperate situation, our fight only added fuel to the fire and sent a message to him that he has absolutely no one on his side.

Completely untrue! I've been there through all of the lies, betrayal and deceit and still wanted to be with him. It's funny how love can force you to dream the impossible and wish the unthinkable. Right now, all I can think about is what if I never approached him about what I thought he was lying to me about? What if he did move here and we were together? Would he still be the same person he's always been? A liar! A cheat! Someone who's been hurt and doesn't know how to give love, true love, back in return?

I always forget how therapeutic blogging is for me. Work is always so hectic (but I love it) and I never really have time to just sit in front of my computer and pour my thoughts into a meaningful and well constructed post!

Really, posting is similar to getting dressed in the morning. Whenever I take the time to actually pay attention to the pieces in my wardrobe and see how they all work together seamlessly, I am able to put together something that is effortless and chic and completely me. I honestly have to say that living in FL, in eternal summer, I've developed my style further than I believe I could have if I was living in NY. Yes, NY is very inspirational and mentally stimulating, but I honestly feel that when you don't have those outside influences to stimulate you either directly or indirectly you pull from something that is inside, it's very organic, and is all your own.

Don't get me wrong, I religiously read fashion blogs and magazines, but whenever I step out my door and walk around in the real world that is Fort Myers, FL I don't see the latest trends and styles emulated by everyday people...and honestly, I don't mind being the only one who wants to put a little more effort into my outfit everyday, because like this post, it's who I am and what I do. It's just...me!

In my continued quest to retire my beloved 510 Super Skinny jeans until the weather permits, I've been on the ultimate hunt for simple, yet chic pants that can be worn in the office and on the weekends that don't look too frumpy, and most of all won't break my pockets. The above selections are exactly what I'm looking for. Versatile, classic, and inexpensively chic.

These would be perfect with polo shirts, black v-neck tees, and rolled up oxford shirts. Seriously going for easy and effortlessly chic all summer long...so far so good! I'm also learning more and more that the label inside of the garment (for the most part) is just that, a label. The same cotton in a pair of $150 khakis is the same cotton in the $30 pair at Old Navy. True style is void of fashion (although fashion does provide the arsenal to pull off a lasting look) its just that style comes from within and has more staying power than any label could ever provide - in my opinion at least.

Silly Bandz

Silly Band gift from Senior Fashion Market Editor at Vogue

So I'm sure you're all very much aware of the silicone, oddly shaped craze that's sweeping the nation faster than a play by play of a good ole' American Ball Game. Silly Bandz as they're called, are the latest accessory to adorn what was the coolest kid on the playground's arm...well that was until adults, hippies, and fashionistas hopped on the trend.

It's actually quite funny how something that retails for $3.99 and is made out of silicone, that's pretty much a rubber band at the end of the day, is the coolest, illest, sickest accessory on the market - in my opinion, of course :-). Style.com recently posted on style icon herself, Mary-Kate Olsen, donning a Silly Band at a press appointment for The Row. I really didn't get what the hype was all about until I went to a friend's party one day and was given one as a party favor. I wore it mostly with everything because I thought it looked great with my normal line-up of MK watch and bracelets combo. The pop of color was pure perfection actually. I definitely had no idea that true fashionistas were running through the offices at top fashion bibles wearing them either, until I met with one said fashionista this week and she basically gave me her "WILD" shaped Silly Band. Wild I know...how's that for irony. The editor was Meredith Melling Burke, Senior Fashion Market Editor at Vogue (yes, that Vogue).

The conversation went a little like this...
Me: You're wearing Silly Bandz?! Which ones are they?
MMB: (Taking them off her wrist) This one's a shark, this one's a sword, and this one is pretty cool, it says "WILD".
Me: Oh that's really cool...I mean wild!
MMB: Yea...do you want it?
Me: Are you sure (Almost reaching for it before hearing her confirmation).
MMB: Sure! You can have it!

Yep, and that's pretty much how someone I idealize in the industry gifted me her Silly Band. The entire experience was life changing...yes, receiving a Silly Band from a Vogue Editor is that big of a deal! I mean, you can trade em with your friends and other people...but how many can get one from Meredith Melling Burke? I now have a total 4 Silly Bandz that I wear everyday - a pair of sunglasses, a guitar, a walrus, and the word "WILD".

With the temperatures in FL reaching well above 90 everyday, I've decided to no longer where my Levi 510 Super Skinny jeans. Honestly, jeans in the summertime are a complete death wish that wouldn't wish my greatest enemy. Skinny jeans especially do nothing for you sartorially because the slim cotton acts like a legging almost allowing little to no air to circulate to your dying legs. I've dropped my last bead of sweat due to skinnies in the summer! Period!

I wore these jeans on Tuesday of last week, and although they have somewhat of a slim fit, they are the perfect alternative to my favorite denims. Basically speaking, they're not as fitted as the Levis and allow me to let a little air hit the back of those knees from time to time.

A nice roll gives them an updated look and is very J.Crew - I'm loving what they're doing with their recent men's Fall 2010 collection. Oxfords half tucked in the front with a great belt, roled jeans, and loafers or lace-up oxfords is strongly becoming my uniform...and I absolutely love it! It's easy, it's simple, and it's 100% me!

Last week I traveled to Montauk, NY for the annual Hamptons Magazine Clambake at the Montauk Yacht Club & Resort. The experience was absolutely amazing and one I will cherish forever (a bit cliche I know but definitely something I will truly remember forever). My coworker and I made the best out of the 2 days we were there and we left no stone unturned - hence the reason there are no photos from the yacht club...a little to much fun :-).

Although it was upsetting to see that East Hampton was a little too pretentious and absolutely absurd at times for my liking, overall, Montauk is clearly the Williamsburg of the Hamptons. I'm seriously considering quitting my job and selling sea shells by the Montauk seashore...but I don't think Mama would approve.

The best part of my whole trip was meeting Scott Schulman and Garance Dore outside of 2nd House Tavern Grill. Dayna and I were parking the car to head in to dinner when I noticed the effortlessly chic couple exiting the restaurant. I immediately yelled to Dayna to stop the car and jumped out to introduce myself. They were so nice and honored to hear me profess my love to them about their blogs and how they're my biggest inspiration...thinking about it now, even if I forget that I ever went to Montauk, I definitely wont forget meeting my two biggest fashion blogger icons!

I've never been a fan of short sleeve sweaters. Always felt like they were an oxymoron of sorts. Sort of like those sleeveless turtlenecks which still don't make too much sense to me. Anyway, fan or not, when I saw this one during my last trip to NY back in April at H&M something about it felt more fashionable and not gimmicky. I love the wide knit and the roll in the sleeves, which I think helps the overall aesthetic of this sweater.

For some really weird reason, I've gone into this mode of only wearing the same pieces over and over again. Definitely not one to waste a garment...hello, countless rants regarding CPW (Cost Per Wear for my first time readers) can be found in blog posts of past. I've seriously worn these pants for a few days now and can really see why some people fall into a funk of only wanting to reach for their true blue pairs of denim or their favorite sweat pants crumbled in the back of the closet. In a way that's what fashion...better yet, what style is all about. Being comfortable in your own skin and allowing the clothes to tell the overall story.

Sometimes I really feel that when I can wear something to work that makes me feel confident and didn't require too much thought, I perform to the BEST of my ability - EVERY SINGLE TIME. I always seem to forget how simple and chic a black and white ensemble can be.

The classic cookie being the Oreo, it would only make sense that the classic ensemble would be in the same hue. Simple, classic and chic is my motto for work wear and for beating summer heat!

I'm hopping on the road tomorrow with my boy James to enjoy some fun in the sun in Orlando. I'm in charge of bringing snacks for the road trip and since I do everything last minute, I have to leave work and go hit up World Market and Target. I also need to buy some shorts - khaki and navy colored for during the day. Skinny jeans in 90 degree weather, no bueno!

This week I decided to lay my clothes out for the entire week on Sunday. That's right, I went through my wardrobe this past Sunday and picked out 5 outfits I wanted to wear to work for the entire week. Not only was this very therapeutic, it was hella convenient! I wake up every morning not having to worry about standing in my closet for 30 minutes thinking to myself what am I going to wear today...it's all right there. Predetermined destiny if you will.

That's kinda what our style is, a predetermined destiny of looks, designers, trends, etc that we are constantly be drawn to. These aren't predetermined in terms of things we don't have control over, but predetermined in a sense that once we determine who we are...we set ourselves up to constantly go through life finding and collecting those things that continuously define the person we defined so long ago. Losing you yet??

Again, another week is dwindling down. Tomorrow's hump day and brings me closer to my road trip to Orlando with my good friend, James. Super excited and need to just pick up a few things to take with me on my trip. Will have to do a post on what I'm bringing with me and the fun DVF weekend bag I'm taking with me. Uber chic, classic, and so perfect!

Sometimes wearing pants with a roll in them can be a little tricky if not done right. The look can go from summer chic to Huckleberry Fin real quick! I think I pulled it off rather nicely...what do you think?

The belt was a special gift from someone at work! I died when I saw it and she gave it to me; knowing that I would give it a great home in my wardrobe. It's a slim black leather belt with metal studs and crystals all over it. Pretty sick if I have to say. Will surely take some better shots of it this week. It definitely added the right amount of edge to the entire ensemble.

So this is the last week in June and it's really hard to believe that the 4th of July is this Sunday. Where is time going...the days are all merging together and I seriously can't keep up anymore. My friend and I are traveling down to Disney World for the weekend and I'm super excited because I've never been! That's right, I'm a 24yr old man that has never been to Disney world and I can hardly wait. Anyone been? What should I do? Who should I see? What should I eat...remember, vegetarian suggestions only :)

The Uniform Project

I don't know about you, but when I heard about Sheena Matheiken and her Uniform Project I was completely shocked and amazed at her notion to only wear one dress for one year to help children in India's slums go to school. The Uniform Project has helped but over 200+ children in India go to school through the Akanksha Foundation. By pledging to only wear one dress for 365 days, Sheena would only be able to dress up or down the look through accessories and jewelry that was either vintage, thrifted, or handed down to her.

Talk about sustainability in fashion! Many of us would shutter at the thought of only wearing one article of clothing for a complete year! Not Sheena, partnering with her designer friend, she had 7 identical dresses designed for each day of the week. The dress was designed so it could essentially be worn 3 ways - forward, backwards, or as an open tunic. Seriously, watching the video is so inspiring and down right MOTIVATIONAL! The creativity and originality that went into each look (the project began May 2009 and recently ended this year) is truly something that takes a lot of guts and tenacity. To limit one's look to only be centered around a staple piece is challenging to say the least. But I guess when you are doing it for a good cause...failure really isn't an option.

So many people donated items to Sheena and even donated money for her cause. This is what happens when the world units and stands up for a singular viewpoint and common goal. Call it Socialism, call it stupid, but how amazing is it when children that never thought they would ever be able to go school, finally get the chance to grow and develop their little minds...anyone have a Kleenex?

Sheena's project spoke to me because I am constantly going back and forth over quality vs quantity. No matter what, too many choices can be daunting and at many times, handicapping. If we were limited to only a few pieces in our wardrobe that we knew were solid wins, we would truly be inspired and motivated to work and try different looks to reinvent those same classic pieces. I believe this is where true style is born...when you can take a few, key staple items, and create solid looks that define who you are, not who fashion says you are this season, that's what makes a true icon. And, while I enjoy fast fashion (Zara, H&M, and Forever21 anyone) it's refreshing to know that true iconography is born from those that work with few tools but build masterpieces.

My J.Crew polos finally arrived last week (the shipping is crazy fast - it took about 4 days) and I definitely feel like I made the right choice in getting so many colors for the wardrobe. These are probably one of the nicest polos I've worn in a long time...compared to the ones I own from Mr.Polo himself, Ralph Lauren.

That's really what I love about J.Crew, they provide quality basics at a great price that you buy now, wear now, and love forever! Today in mailbox I received my July catalog and boy oh boy, the imaginary Black Card in my wallet is burning a hole in my pocket! Must chant..Patience son, PATIENCE...

Praying that I not spend my life savings on these amazing pieces. Ugh, they get me every time!

Saturday mornings at the Farmer's Market are becoming a ritual for a good friend and I. Getting up a little earlier than I would like to on an off day (before 10am), we head out to scour the edible jewels that the farmer's have for selling. You can tell from the pictures above that they have quite a lot to offer and the prices are so cheap!

I seriously don't believe I will ever step foot in a produce isle again - except maybe to buy fruit (from Whole Foods) the fruit from the Markets out here aren't all that great I have to say. But just look at those beautiful colors. Becoming a vegetarian is truly so much easier when you have amazing ingredients to work with - I mean hello, beauty on the inside (food) = beauty on the outside!

Jersey's Not A Good Look For Me...

What is casual anymore? Harem pants in the summer are definitely the way to go. I just found these lodged in the back of my closet - reorganization is underway. Googling closet designs for inspiration. It's all about the organization of one's life that will bring the greatest reward. I'll probably be able to find a lot more things and eliminate the extra 5 minutes at night trying to find my favorite key items. Just saying...

Learning more and more what looks best on me in this blistering heatwave we call summer in Florida. Button ups with rolled sleeves, vests, skinny jeans, ties/bowties, loafers or lace up oxfords. Getting dressed every morning is becoming easier and easier because I'm becoming more confident in who I am and my style! I love looking pulled together - a serving of classic with some edge and fun on the side.

The pattern mixing I'm achieving with this look is BANANAS! Plaid shirt with circle pattern tie and floral print espadrilles. Completely unexpected and all the more appealing. After seeing these pics, I'm thinking the look would have really been a showstopper if the vest had gold buttons...oh boy, another DIY project under way!

I have to admit, when these shoes first came out I thought they reminded me of an upgraded Birkenstock. You know, straight tree hugger status. Clearly my perception of them have changed as I now have a wish list of the styles that I'll need for my wardrobe. They are extremely comfortable (from what I hear) and stylishly out of this world. And, knowing that for every shoe purchased, a child receives a pair of shoes to go to school in, is all the more reason to load up on a few styles for the summer. Hey, it's for a good cause.

Imagine these with a slim suit, or a pair of over-sized rolled hem trousers and a white button up, or harem pants and a t-shirt...oh, I'm playing dress up in my head. Always a good sign I've got a winner on my hands. Will definitely have to update you as I collect these beauties for the wardrobe.

Hermes Reversible "H" Buckle Leather Belt

You know it and I know it...the right accessories can help take a look to a completely different place if done right. The cherry on top of your fashion sundae. Women have the luxury of endless bags and purses to help transform some of the most bland of outfits to works of sartorial art. Having discovered the power of a good shoe early on, I'm now in the market for the perfect belt to take my wardrobe of simplistic, classic pieces to a new place.

The Hermes "H" Buckle Reversible belt is definitely a heavy hitter. It would truly take a white oxford, skinny jeans and loafers to a completely different place, a la Nicky Hilton in the above image. The second image shows the belt's power on a completely styled out look. Again, cherry on top! Retailing at $585, it's just a little pricey for a frugalista like myself. Here's hoping I can find one on Ebay or at a great consignment shop in Naples, FL or New York City. A piece like this would be a true collector's item...and that's what I want my wardrobe to be, a collection of items I've amassed over the years that tell a story about me, and no one else.

Funny how a piece of leather can have such a profound impact on one's self actualization...

Where's My EASY Button...

If I had an EASY button for summer office dressing, I'd press it every morning I woke up! With the ever rising temperatures, it gets harder and harder to look professional and stylishly put together without melting on my way from the car to the office. I definitely have to agree that living here in Florida has taught me the simplicity of looking my best - easy fabrics and lots of great accessories is the only way one can make it out alive.

When it comes to summer dressing, there's definitely some things that are just basic essentials, and the above polos fall into that category. These are from J.Crew and at about $20 a pop - love the Extra 20% off summer sale - these will be in SERIOUS rotation as the summer burns on. Total I think I spent $130 including shipping for these 6 beauties. The colors are seasonless and will work nicely with the pieces I currently have in my wardrobe.

Little by little I'm acquiring a collection of items that I'll wear now and LOVE forever.

Filson Rucksack in Otter Green

If you follow me on Twitter then you know that I've been on the eternal hunt for a stylish, classic, everlasting backpack. My lust for the PS1 by CFDA dream team, Proenza Schouler, will have to wait until I'm able to drop such a large amount on a bag without breaking a sweat. Until then, the backpack will be the perfect alternative. Definitely experiencing a crazy resurgence of epic proportions, Spring 2010 runways perhaps, the backpack's functionality and upgraded appeal is definitely worth looking further into.

My search began with the Louis Vuitton Montsouris GM Backpack that was made famous by the infamous Louis Vuitton Don himself, Kanye West back in the early 2000's. While the bag is definitely a classic, I had to ask myself if I really needed to own a logo emblazoned bag in 2010. I definitely feel it's way more chic to quietly walk past and have people wondering where you got something, rather than have it scream - LOUIS VUITTON. No offense to Marc and the fabulous team at LVMH, but I'll leave the logo bags to the rappers and million dollar ads in Vogue and Elle.

The Filson Rucksack in Otter Green is that perfect combination of functionality and fashion. I love the leather straps and gold detailing; a nod to the utilitarian trend for sure. Large enough for the ole MacBook, camera, and charger - dimensions are 15" W x 17" H x 5" D. This is going to be my everyday bag for sure. I definitely feel that the pack is here to stay. I mean, to have your hands free for endless emailing and texting, scouring racks for vintage finds, and evenly distributing weight on either side is definitely not a bad thing at all.

Made a huge decision last week while I was home in DC. Decided that I, Ernest James Bannister Jr. will become a vegan! Yes, that's right...I said, V E G A N.

It all started when I was watching an old episode of Oprah when she had food author Michael Pollan on there and he talked about how genetically altered our food was. They even showed clips from the movie, Food Inc. and one farmer talked about how the chickens are fed hormones to make them grow faster and bigger in less amount of time. The chickens grow at such an alarming rate their bones and muscles can't keep up and they basically fall over and just lay there. Um, I'm cool on that note.

This is probably one of the biggest decisions I've ever made - next to moving to Florida from New York. It's definitely going to be a challenge as I love my cheese. But being a vegan is not a destination, it's a journey. And, thanks to Alicia Silverstone's best selling book, The Kind Diet, I don't have to do it alone. Alicia has been a vegan for quite some time and her book and website, The Kind Life, really help to dispel any misconceptions that you can never eat a good meal again as a vegan. I'm only on week 2 and I really don't think it's going to be that bad after all.

But please don't get me mistaking, I'm becoming vegan in the food sense, when it comes to vegan fashion - that's a whole nother thing. Baby steps people, baby steps...

It's seriously getting hotter and hotter as we progress through this year. Florida seriously should have "black out" times of the day where residents are urged to stay in doors in the A/C until temperatures cool outside. It's getting quite ridiculous to have to continue to get dressed for work and only want to reach for jeans and a t-shirt (not that there's anything wrong with the combo, I just need to continue to project my fabulous, take me serious sartorial image in the workplace.)

Loose and drapey is definitely the way to go. This sweater is something I picked up on my last trip to NY for work and decided to pair it with my looser jeans - yes, I, the lover of Levi 510 Super Skinny jeans do own a pair of loose fitting jeans. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! The look is comfortable but also very stylish. I'm definitely going to have more and more interpretations of this look as we really get into summer.

If the temperatures now are any signs of what's to come, I may seriously have to commission some of the designers at work to make me a few kilts. I'm just saying, I've never really been a fan of the sweaty back of the knee cap look...

I always feel a little more pulled together when I wear my polo tucked in with a belt and bow tie. Very dapper and always 100% on point for the day - and why not wear a polo from Polo Ralph Lauren? It's the only thing that makes sense. As I continue to build my wardrobe, I'm definitely going to be adding more and more of these shirts to the mix. The bow tie was find from Bloomingdales when I started to dabble in accessories that took a look from one place to a completely different place - that's exactly what this paisley print bow tie did.

I love the ease of Sundays and the chance to reflect back and look at another week gone by...Here's to another Stylish Sunday spent looking nothing but my best.

Food for Thought Fridays: Bacon & Spinach Carbonara...

Food Porn! As I'm sure you are all aware, I am a self proclaimed foodie. Yes, it's true. If it's edible, more than likely I'll try it. Every Saturday I wake up and veg out on the couch with my dog, Aspen to watch the 9am - 1pm lineup on Food Network.

My favorites are Cooking for Real, Down Home with The Neelys (a dash of Cayene Pepper!!!! I love Pat and Gina. Are they not the cutest couple..ever??), Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics, and my all time favorite - 5 Ingredient Fix. Claire Robinson is my hero! She takes the most decadent meals and simplifies them for foodies like me. Quality over quantity is Claire's motto - with the right ingredients you can have a 5 star meal without all of the extra fuss.

I've never tried one of Claire's recipes until last week when she combined my two loves - bacon and pasta to make a Creamy Spinach Bacon and Spinach Carbonara. It looked amazing!!!

Although I couldn't find the exact cheese and pasta that Claire used on the show - Damn Super WalMart. What's so good about a store selling groceries if they're not going to offer everything??? Either way, it was definitely one of the best meals I've ever made.

And who said no reservations on a Friday night was the end of the world?

Stylish Sundays: Fashion Visionaire, Iris Apfel...

Iris Apfel to me is a stunning work of art. Her love of clothing, color, and most importantly accessories, and interior fabrics come through in everything she says and does. Her energy and passion makes me fall in love with STYLE all over again. I really think people miss the true meaning of personal style because they are so caught up in what's in Fashion. Fashion is something you buy, where style is something you have - an invaluable talent that we all possess.

Now please don't get me wrong, Fashion gives us the tools to create personal style...but it is truly an amazing experience to find one's self through their sartorial journey. I believe my look is minimal at times, masculine meets feminine classics! I'm also lusting over the power accessories have in taking a look from one place to somewhere completely unexpected. Like rock legends and stylish people alike, I've become less conscious of gender specific clothing, and more conscious of what I want to say to the word through my wardrobe! I honestly believe as we move towards a more modern, label-less society, where we're not defined by typical labels of man or woman, gay or straight, liberal or conservative and so on, that's when we'll see more and more people able to define who they are and what they truly want to say to the world.

In the meantime we'll have amazing, fearless, and inspiring people like the Great Iris Apfel. Enjoy the videos - I've seriously watched them over 100 times.

New York Stationed...

1 down, 9 to go. I've been on an eternal search for a military style jacket in my price range (that's right, I'm sticking to this budget thing and there's nothing you can do to stop me. I love you J.Crew, I really do, but $170 is too much for a jacket...I live in FL for goodness sake). Surprisingly enough I was able to score a Base Jacket from the GAP for $30; originally priced at $90! The above set pretty much sums up my inspiration for my new acquired piece.

Heading out to New York tomorrow around 2 and the excitement is building. Decided not to stay the weekend (my savings will thank me later) but I have some fab eateries lined up for this week. The weather is also pretty awful I hear which is perfect for me and my new addition. I love items that you Buy Now, Wear Now, and Love FOREVER! Below is my first vlog* and a feature on the jacket.

Cruel Summer...

It's officially summer here in FL, and to say I'm a little pissed is an understatement! Ugh!!!! I really hate when the sun rises say 2 or 3 and begins to cook us poor defenseless humans in our fav garments. It's not fair, it's just not fair. This summer I've decided that my work and personal wear will reflect my well curated style in a new way.

Before, I was very rebellious against rising temperatures, I'm talking cardigans, long sleeve V-neck sweaters, it was hot, sweaty mess. Logically speaking, I believed that I was going from the AC'd house, to the AC'd car, to the AC'd office...not having to worry about the elements around me. WRONG! I do so much walking at work that I need to seriously stop playing and get it together.

After reading Harper's Bazaar's May issue and Anne Monokey's article depicting her time at Ana Maria Pimental's summer wedding, she touched on while temperatures may be rising, one should not allow style to plummet. Taking her advice of incorporating light weight fabrics, cotton, cotton, and more cotton blended garments and tops. With the use bold accessories and jewelry to boost credibility of everyday basic ensembles, I definitely think now the summer won't be so cruel to my stylish ways...

Following your dreams is the most rewarding thing one can ever do in life. It can sometimes be downright scary and absolutely wear on one's spirit and mind frame of which direction/step to take first. Fear is truly not a factor for 2 of my friends in New York, who a few years ago decided to launch their online boutique, PnkElephant.com.

I've known one of the partners, Blair, for going on 6 years now and she is truly the epitome of a "go-getter". Never settling for anything less than perfection, she has and continues to push herself to make a name in an industry since the housing bubble bust, has seen many big retailers shaken in their galoshes. With her business partner, Dana, who I've only met this year, the dynamic duo set out to push past industry and expert fears and offer the entire world affordable accessories via the world wide web.

By opening an online boutique first, they are able to reach across many oceans and bridges to some places many brick and mortar stores may only dream of being. With international acclaim, they have seen excitement for their brand in Sweden and London. And what more validation can you get than from across the pond? On April 29th in New York, I was able to attend the launch party of Pnk Elephant and it was truly a momentous occasion.

Hosted at HK Lounge in midtown Manhattan, models in designs by Marco Hall (also a friend of mine) parlayed with party goers donning the latest accessories from the all female design and buying team. Amongst family and friends, Blair and Dana introduced their labor of love to a crowd of movers and shakers that were ready for something new and fresh. The above photos were a few I was able to grab that night before putting the camera away and partaking in the festivities. Definitely be sure to check these ladies out as they continue to bring amazing and trend-setting accessories to the forefront.

When In...New York

Organization is key to success in any realm of life. Even this here blog is going to become more organized in it's post and content...even though one's thoughts can rarely be organized because they come as random as ever, what little control I can have over them and the content that I provide here will be the greatest reward.

When In posts will focus on certain cities and towns I am in and the best things to do, see, or eat. Note: I'm not a trained professional in the critiques of life's many joys, just a partaker in the game of LIFE and someone who loves discovering hidden gems by word of mouth and referrals from other people with the same interests.

So, for our first When In...New York City, the best of the best for nightclubs, plays, parks, neighborhoods, shopping, museums, and a lot of other stuff that makes it the tourist mecca for all those looking to stand in Times Square and take in the lights, sounds, and sirens. But something that I think we can all appreciate about New York, is it's endless supply of good eats! Tonight, I was able to partake in one of the Meat Packing District's finest restaurants, Fig and Olive.

Under the executive leadership of Chef Pascal Lorange, Fig and Olive is the epitome of Mediterranean dining. Mostly everything on the menu is made from the finest olive oils and spices. The entire space, at least at night, is lit up with thousands upon thousands of candles, and the music is a mix of remixed Top 40 tracks!

I enjoyed the Penne Mediterraneo with my best friend who will be wedding the love of her life this summer in Greece...sadly I won't be there! A sample of the menu is below and the contents of my entree are described. If this was one of those children's books that made animal sounds when you pressed the image of the corresponding animal, my entree sound would be..AAAAhhhhh!

This was by far the best pasta I've ever had, and the best part about it, there was no sauce. I've only recently discovered that eating pasta without sauce is absolutely amazing with the right amount of oil and spices, and tonight's dinner reaffirmed that love for simplistic meals without a lot of fuss.

And any place with amazing Merlot, music, and ambiance...to me, that's fine dining.

I've been reading crazy reviews regarding Clinique's Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector, with 12 weeks of continued use (and sunscreen, MUY IMPORTANTE) clients have seen dramatic, up to 53%, improvement in their skin tone.

I've battled acne most of my teenage and college years, whew, getting a little personal on this here blog...hey, that's what it's for right...stay with me. I sympathize with those teens and adults who continue to battle acne everyday...like the famous poster, hang in there baby.

That's true style to me, objective or not, determining who you are and what you want to say to the world, but most importantly not giving a damn...speaks volume. Finally, it's Friday. Big plans for the weekend to continue celebrating my promotion, Round 2, then off to NY for 2 weeks which I'm super excited about.

Easy Like Sunday Morning...

Looking forward to getting through this week; I leave for NY the following Monday! Too bad I can't sleep for the entire week and wake up in The Big Apple. Oh well, nothing in life is worth having if you didn't have to work for it! Working hard this week cause I want NY, REAL BAD!

Tea for 2...

If I ever received an invitation to tea, I'm pretty sure I would wear something to this effect. Sitting outside at a chic Parisian cafe thinking about the many wonders of life. I never really stop to just be in the moment...correction, I never stopped to be in the moment until today.

So in my last post, I talked about how I had an important review at work today and had to look my best - I didn't wear this outfit today, cute, but not my most "I take myself and my job serious" ensemble if you get what I mean. Anyway, today (in all black, purple loafers for a pop of color and punctuation) after my review, which went FABULOUS by the way (I hate that word, but for some reason, every now and again it just fits), my boss proceeds to tell me that I'm being promoted...

Pause for reaction...in the moment...taking time to enjoy and just be in the moment...after swallowing hard and calming my breathing and excitement, she tells me that I've been promoted and will also be receiving a raise!!!! Now, in no way did I expect any of this to happen - don't get me wrong, I work hard, damn hard, but I judge myself very critically and sometimes feel that I can do so much more with my time on a day to day basis.

It's always rewarding and amazing when people can look at your progression through life, a career, whatever, and see and acknowledge the change you made for the better. Today was the first day in a long time that I was proud of myself...truly proud of the strides I made to get me where I am today. I am truly blessed and grateful that everyday I wake up, I am able to rejoice and celebrate those blessings. And here's where if I had that imaginary tea date, my companion would turn to me and say, "I'll toast to that".

Loving this monochromatic look. I definitely have to say when it comes to Monday mornings (that's when I wore this), I really try my best to be comfortable first...crossing my fingers I pull something out of the air that resembles my chic self. Whew! Recovering from the weekends can be serious business.

So excited to be heading back to D.C. for my best friend's college graduation soiree. I know this is going to be the party of the year...when she throws a party, she throws a party. Many outfits must be scouted.

On another work related note, tomorrow is my review and I'm slightly nervous...definitely wearing my most "I take myself and my job very seriously" outfit. All black!

This past Friday, April 1st, no fools were fooled as editors, bloggers, and Derek Lam among other special guests previewed the Fall 2010 collection for powerhouse brand J.Crew. The collection was showcased at Milk Studios, described by Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, as "Edie Beale goes to girl scout camp".

Now, there are very few times in life when a stylish gay guy (like moi) really wishes he was born a girl - like when I see a ridiculous pair of Louboutins, a beyond fab big necklace (oh wait, I wear those now...) or how about when I see uber chic collections like this one right here! DAMN genetics, science and divine intervention. Don't get me wrong, I love being my amazingly, fabulous self, but I mean come on...it's just not fair. But, as many of you may have already guessed, I will certainly be taking a cue from my style icon, Jenna Lyons herself, and will be borrowing from the opposite sex...excuse me ladies, mind if I join you?

Recently I've been saving images of inspirational pictures that I stumble across during my daily blog post readings. I have 3 folders essentially, Blog Images - for images I take for this here blog, Sartorial - for images I come across on blogs of outfits that are inspiring and moving, and finally Lust List - for those images of things I have to covet for myself.

Well the above 2 images are from the latter. I consider this the Enchanted Black Forest because no matter what I do, whenever I peruse the images within it's tempting depths, I'm constantly reminded how Eve-ly weak I am to the bidden fruit that will forever keep me from saving serious money...at least right now anyway. No matter how many times I try to stay away from this folder, these 2 items are all I obsessively dream about. It's borderline addictive if you ask me.

So, I've decided that in order to face my fears of saving money and having patience (a lot to tackle at one time) I am going to begin with the Karen Walker Deep Freeze Tortoise Sunglasses. Yes, I know that everyone who is anyone, and who has ever been featured on a blog or has a blog, has a pair of these sacred sunnies. But hey, everyone has a computer, and now thanks to our amazing, POTUS, we'll all soon have healthcare. So is having something that everyone else does really all that bad, NOPE! I'm thinking that in 2 months I'll have saved enough to join the cult. That'll also give me time to find a place that still has them in stock!

My final test will be the Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Black Leather Bag. I've never wanted something so bad in all my life (wait, that's not true...just trying to convey how much I really, REALLY, want this bag). At $2,000 it's really going to be a test to reel in my frivolous spending to amass enough coins to get this beauty. This will be the perfect everyday bag - my fashion forward answer to the messenger. Listen, I wear a lot of skinny jeans and my pockets don't deserve to be stuffed with all the contents I need to get me through a normal day - Rosebud Salve, car keys, and wallet. Men need bags just like women so our hands are free to take care of business. It's also large enough to carry my Canon Rebel with me so I don't have to worry about ever missing another photo op again.

This isn't going to be easy, but it can...screw that, MUST be done...wish me luck.

Again, the absolutes in my closet - Black, White, and the Greys bring the most joy to my life and my sartorial choices. I love the mix of polish and grunge with this look, the boots (damn, how I love thee so) really take the look to a completely different place. A fun and french kind of joie de vivre place. Loving my french influences - even if no one else sees them.

T-Shirt: Forever21, DIY Tie Dye Jeans: Organic Loomstate, Watch: Michael Kors

Finally!!!! Found a pair of bleached jeans that I'm completely smitten with. And the best part is, they're one of a kind. Couldn't find a pair that were worth the extra cash so I decided to make my own from a pair of jeans I scored from Gilt last year.

After soaking in my bathroom sink for a week and damn near knocking me on my face from the fumes - NOTE to self, never close the door with bleach sitting for longer than 20 minutes. Washed them twice in hot water then dried them on the highest setting and voila - Tie Dye Denim!

I'm so impressed with my DIY skills! This outfit kind of reminds me of easy Sunday mornings. A basic white tee, the perfect watch, and a pair of amazing denim - all for lounging and feeling completely enamored with Life and all its many luxuries.

It's the little events like this that make this boring place a little more tolerable. I'm also going to meet with my real estate agent because I'm looking to move into our downtown area in one of the luxury high rises. Fingers crossed I find something by the time I have to renew my current lease - by next Thursday.

Ever since my birthday last week, I've been moving in a new direction. I'm now feeling a sense of focus and determination to be the best that I can at anything I touch. This certainly is the case with my wardrobe. I've completely turned to all black ensembles as not just a sartorial expression of the new me, but as a type of armor if you will.

I wanted to show you guys this insanely amazing, BEYOND FAB necklace I scored at Chico's. It was only $68 and reflects the growing trend of statement pieces with beads and color that add an extra something to the entire piece. This is very Marni inspired and I'm completely smitten with it. They are truly doing big things over there, the jewelry is completely BANANAS and so affordable.

Wore this to the office on Friday and all of my friends kept saying it looked like I had a ton of watch bands around my neck! Love it! This is truly going to be a go to piece for sure, as the weather continues to rise - there goes my "Summer" knits - I am going to have to find more fun and interesting ways to spruce up the wardrobe.

2 weeks ago while I was in NY, I decided to do myself a favor and get a pair of harems. I've been debating back and forth on whether or not I had the confident to pull them off - because I pretty much decided I had to have a pair, I just need to believe in myself enough to know that I would look amazing no matter what I wore. So, I went to American Apparel and got them.

These are probably the most lightweight, most comfortable pair of pants I probably have ever owned - aside from the jumpers I wore as an infant. Thanks, Mom. I seriously only wish they came with pockets. Oh well, I guess it's time to invest in that all the time, anywhere, black leather bag I've been obsessing over.

Wore this to an outside mall, oh excuse me, lifestyle center last Saturday. The looks I got were priceless. One guy even had the guts to ask, "are you a back-up dancer for MC Hammer?". I mean, Harry Winston always believed, "People are going to stare. Might as well give them something to look at".

WSJ Magazine and VICE are featuring 2 SUPERB profiles on 2 iconic fashion industry legends this month. I always love when I come across a profile of a designer because it's always that rare glimpse inside a mad scientist's laboratory where they reveal (some, not all) their intricately laid ways of thinking and how they approach what they do everyday.

Sometimes, the profile is a monologue - a journalist's perceptive view of a powerhouse and what's keeping the charge - WSJ and Patrizio Bertelli. But sometimes you may stumble upon a dialogue between the designer and the reporter - VICE and Karl Lagerfeld. Those to me are always more fun. In a way, a profiled dialogue opens the door wider to this idea that Fashion is no longer just a monologue. In many ways it's becoming a dialogue, a conversation if you will, but no longer just between the designers and editors, but between everyone who gives a shit, has a camera, and some type of internet connection.

Now, more than ever, everyone wants to be apart of that dialogue with Fashion and I think that's wonderful. We need support groups to okay when we spend $700 on red soled shoes, or when we prefer a pair of distressed vintage Levis over anything else, or why we deem every sartorial purchase we really can't afford as an "investment". And can you think of anyone better to lead that group than the men and women responsible for the "drugs" that many of us are all so addicted to...

Neither can I.

Today, we'll all eat cake because it's my 24th birthday! We'll also eat CiCi's Pizza becaus that's one of my favorite restaurants. They have a birthday special, $3.99 all you can eat - I'M IN! Birthdays are nice, it's the one day you matter most! More than any of the other people around you that may be more amazing than you are. Even a complete stranger will pass you and tell you, Happy Birthday. Now what's not special about that...

Remember, live each day as if it's your last and never forget to - Breathe, Smile, and Take A Bow. The world is a stage, only you can decide whether you're cast for the lead or supporting role! Now, I must dash off to the ball - I have until midnight and it's back to the pumpkin patch!

Can't keep my feet out of these All Saints boots! Loving the fact that I can dress them up or down and they pretty much go with just about everything in my wardrobe. I'm definitely seeing a pattern with the way I am dressing this season, this year...All black, navy, grey and white; paired with killer accessories. Absolutely dying for large rings this year as well! Truly graduating to a more chic and tailored look! Very French and very what I'm lusting to achieve everyday! Here's round 2...so far, tres chic!

Current Lust Affair - All Saints Suede Damisi Boot

Ok - let's get right into it. I went to NY and LA for 2wks and boy did I have a blast! NY is always fun (minus the freak blizzard, but fun all the same). LA on the other hand was the greatest experience of my life. I can't believe that it was only 2 weeks ago that I was driving in the land of excess fame, fortune, and plastic blondey goodness! The weather, food, and shopping will gleefully haunt my dreams for many nights to come.

Anyway, I want to talk about my new All Saints Suede Damisi Boots. I'm completely obsessed! They're so perfect it's not even funny. I had to purchase one amazing item from LA to bring back and brag to all of my friends about it. Why not these sick ass boots. Oh, I do believe we are going to be very happy together. Wore this outfit to my friend's Oscar Party - yeah I know, that was like weeks ago, but my stupid box of scrap metal called a PC was on it's freakin period! I couldn't take it anymore!!!!

So I finally drank from the sacred glass of Apple Kool-Aid and got a MacBook. Now I'm wondering how did I ever function without this beautiful specimen of advanced technology known as a notebook? I had the ultimate pleasure to spend my lovely Saturday morning with one of the most endearing, heartfelt, stylish woman I've ever met. Her home - pure, simplistic, modern perfection. Her wardrobe - what dreams are made of. With an amazing family and a circle of friends that rival "The Sisterhood", she lives what most people would call - A FULL Life. Her sartorial and domestic style is well curated and sharp. Chic and clearly defined, everything within her home and closet seemed as though it was filtered through a well defined funnel of what works and doesn't work for her taste and lifestyle.

She's really good friends with my boss (yep, the owner of these crazy Dries), and it was definitely necessary to feature her on this blog, sooner rather than later. I feel so honored to have been allowed inside of her amazing home, and absolutely privileged to bring these beautiful images to you.

Two days and I'm off to NY for a week before heading to LA for the Film Independent Spirit Awards. I'm overly excited and my well curated wardrobe is a reflection of that bottled up anticipation. Only traveling with 14 pieces in total, because I'm really looking forward to shopping for the holes in my wardrobe. Below is a working list of items that I will surely be hunting for between 2 of the greatest cities in the world.

Somewhere in there was Valentine's Day, but I'm single and don't celebrate that day, so moving right along. Thank you!

I wore this outfit last Friday to the office. The sweater is a vintage find from Ebay that was handmade in Sweden. It's extremely warm, and will be perfect for my New York trip next week (yes, I'm going to NY a week after Fashion Week. Devastated, I know, but at least I'm going). Paired it with a Forever 21 basic tee and my 510 Super Skinny jeans. Oh internet, how I've missed you so...off to catch up on all the shows I missed last week.

My Inspiration - Acne AW 2010 Collection

My cockapoo Aspen, couldn't resist the chance to get her picture taken.

Getting dressed at 6am to get to work by 6:30am can sometime be a bit much. I found it quite liberating actually to know that I only had a small window of time to get dressed and dash out the door. No time to dance back and forth in front of the mirror tugging at every sad attempt to look more fashionable, extreme, and daring than my clothes (most anyway) would allow.

Going through my "wardrobe in proceess", as I'm now referring to it, I thought about the Acne AW 2010 collection in Sweden. They did this long over lean look - translation, big, long shirts with slim, skinny bottoms. Perfect! Reached for my recently thrifted Banana Republic shirt, 510 Super Skinny Jeans, and my black Aldo lace ups and viola! Hello, No Nonsense Wednesday!!! The look was completely beyond chic and definitely one I'll be adopting more and more. Finally, another reason to go thrifting again...as if I ever needed a reason.

What an AMAZING book! I remember reading this in grade school thinking that I would only want to live each day as if it was my last - to the FULLEST. No regrets! And then I grew up, graduated from college and secured my first full time job. Now, I only want to live long enough not to lose my mind!!!

Wearing my vintage silk paisley tie with a J.Crew plaid shirt, grey Target tweed vest, and of course the 510 Super Skinny jeans. The whole look had a whole Mister Rogers appeal - especially when I threw my vintage Pringles of Scotland cardigan over the entire frock.

Anything but...it did make a nice title though. This beyond amazing embellished satin cummerbund dressed up my solid foundation of wht button and 510 Super Skinny for the unofficial fashion event I attended today and my friend's dinner party (which was beyond amazing and decadent. Italians truly do it better!). It sort of reminds me of a chastity belt for the waist, only way more fabulous.

The vintage appeal of the sequins, cabochon crystals and the metal chain remind me of Roman armor. The weight on this piece proves that this has superb construction and was probably really expensive at one point - translation, an excellent piece for the well curated wardrobe. Best part is, it was Free 99. Oh, yeah!!!!

So the blazer I bought on my last thrifting hunt turned out to be such the conversation piece at work today. A lot of people thought it was a fun constructed jacket, but nope, it's pretty much a uniform blazer that I pulled tight on either side and belted. Right now, I'm LUSTING strong, statement dressing and it feels so natural - don't you just love self actualization...I do. Must collect more strongly constructed blazers to give myself options on colors, textures, prints, the works. Remember, I'm building a timeless collection that is, In Ernest.

Later on today, I'm going to a fashion lecture, more like history lesson on couture at the Interior Design school here in Fort Myers - this aughta be good. Not sure what I'm going to wear, but I'm sure it'll consist of a white button up and my Levi 510's. Every great artist needs a blank canvas...

So excited for my upcoming trip to New York at the end of the month. Can't wait to see my friends, have good eats, and overlook Bryant Park yet again. Wearing J.Crew vneck sweater, Gap pants and vintage Hogans that first premiered here. They pinch my right foot to the point that I have to take breaks and take them off under my desk during the day - but I love them so, and will never let them go! No pain, no gain! The Klein tool bag is an official tool bag, my maintenance guy had one and gave me a look as if a secret code - sorry, no power tools in here, homie. This is for fashion only. I'm giving a look.

While we're on the subject of bags, there's a bag that I'm absolutely obsessing over and can't stop thinking about - I've been having dreams of walking the streets of NY and every major fashion-know-it-all stops me and let's me know that they love my bag, all the other people are left with this "Is he serious" look. Oh, how I love it so!

I've been in the market for the perfect everyday bag outside of my work bag, something I can wear crossbody, black, leather of course, a little fashion and little rock and roll. I think I may have found it, the icing on the cake that will have most people staring and some swooning. Hey, people are gonna stare, might as well give em something to look at. Stay tuned...

This black and white chained sweater from Forever 21 was an impulse buy that has continued to bring me joy every time I wear. Paired with my Marc Jacob toggle sweater coat, it was the perfect outfit to battle the lovely weather Florida is having. 60 and a little windy. I love it!

Can't believe the weekend is fast approaching. I put a few books and the movie Princess Mononotke on reserve at the library - I've never seen this movie, but I hear it's life changing and absolutely, AMAZING!!! An EPIC film. Here's hoping...

My version of the stacked bracelets trend - two watches; the Kenneth Cole one (on top) doesn't work.

My parcel ( I love that word, it sounds so regal) arrived from Forever21 yesterday - you know, the one I posted about it here, last week. After inspecting everything and making sure it was at least close enough to those enticing web images - CAUTION, items online can appear more luxurious and quality made than they actually are, I immediately tried on this studded shoulder sweatshirt, and decided to waste no time debuting it at the office and on the blog. I don't play around when it comes to new purchases - no time like the present I like to say. I always purchase items that I can wear NOW and LUST forever.

Paired the ultra soft darling sweatshirt with my H&M black trousers and Zara tuxedo shoes for a totally modern Tuesday meetings look. I kinda wish the studs went all the through the shirt - they're glued on, and I wish the bottom hem was more fitted to the body - has this weird cheaply constructed hanging effect going on. But hey, for $17, I really can't complain. Although, it did inspire me for my next DIY project.

My first ever Style Muse post features someone who I've always loved for her distinctive and expressive sartorial choices.

Anna Dello Russo is the Fashion Director at Vogue Nippon and she absolutely LUSTS everything fashion!!! Her look is unique yet at the same time directional, sharp, and poetic.

"Because I don't want to keep clothes that don't make sense for my collection.." Anna describes why every piece in her well curated wardrobe is special and unique. The same approach I am beginning to take with my own personal "collection". In a way, we are all designers, buying pieces to create looks that we love; that tell of story of who we are and what we want to say to the world. And so true is the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, and when it comes to style, if we were to become mute tomorrow, what would our own sartorial voices say to the world...
